Lushlife

My favorite aspect about running this blog (besides sharing great music with all you random folks) occurs when I start researching a new artist after hearing a song or two, and finding a collection of great, largely unheard work. So happened this past weekend with Lushlife.

Raj Halda is Lushlife; He is also an MC, producer, remixer, and classically trained pianist and Jazz drummer. His voice sounds like Nas, and his sample-heavy beats sound like the work of Dilla himself. Either way you would never guess he is an Indian kid from Philly.

Lushlife gained some notaraity in 2007 with his West Sounds album in which he mashed up Kanye vocal tracks with beats that sampled The Beach Boys. His debut album Cassette City was released last year via Rapster Records.

Be on the lookout for Lushlife at SXSW, on the Hype Machine and blating out of my car stereo. His wide musical knowledge (check out his raps over Washed Out below), spot-on production and recognizable East Coast flow make his music something both the rap and indie games will welcome.
